Dahl classics come to life on stage

By Nicole Thomson

British theatre company Get Lost & Found is proud to present the Australian premiere of Roald Dahl and the Imagination Seekers, which will land on stage at the Paramount Theatre on June 2.

Direct from an acclaimed tour of the UK, this family show celebrates Roald Dahl’s extraordinary stories from The BFG to The Twits — and many more along the way.

Especially made for ages six and up, the show is an immersive and interactive performance, involving games and imaginative play.

The production is fully commissioned and endorsed by the Roald Dahl Literary Estate, and it is the only interactive show under licence worldwide.

Starring Maddi Savage and Josh Burton, the show is set to warm the hearts of parents and children through its nostalgically magical atmosphere.

Australian producer Jared Harford says the show is designed for all to enjoy, with lots of imagination.

“It’s a show that uses a lot of imagination rather than lots of crazy sets,” he said.

“It’s two actors on stage and a few props, and everything else happens in the audience’s imagination.”

In the show, the audience will be transported to the Roald Dahl world, where all of his works have been wiped off the face of the planet.

"During the show we need the audience to help us not only rewrite Roald Dahl’s work, but also write some brand new stories,“Mr Harford said.

“There is audience involvement — at one point in the show we get two audience members to come up on stage and they do some magic — and then there’s lots of call-and-response with the audience.

“There’s as much as interaction as we can possibly get from a kids show.”

While the show isn’t directly related to any one story or character from Roald Dahl’s extensive works, the themes of his stories will be very present.

‘’There are scenes that are taken straight from the Roald Dahl books,” Mr Harford said.

“Two of the really big Roald Dahl characters will be making an appearance in the show, and the audience will help bring them to life — it’s more about Roald Dahl’s world rather than one story.”
