Magpies top Lions

By Bransen Gibson

Moama has extended its winning streak to five games with a dominant 29-goal win over Mulwala.

The Magpies were simply too good for the Lions, jumping off to a fast start and pulling away to win 56-27.

The result not only lengthens Moama’s unbeaten run, but also snaps Mulwala’s fourgame winning streak as well.

Moama coach Lisa Drysdale said it was a fantastic game from her side, led by some stellar work in defence.

“It was absolutely outstanding, I was rapt with our performance,” Dysdale said.

“In the first four minutes Tiarna Steel really set the game up, she had three clean rejections in the first four minutes of the game on their goalers.

“Our defensive duo were just sensational. Tiarna and Liv Mackenzie really shut down their goalers, it was amazing.”

Moama’s great start saw it hold a commanding 29-12 lead at half-time, with its dominance continuing after the break.

The Magpies held Mulwala to just four goals in the third quarter, building on their lead in the second half to run out 29-goal victors. The win is an important result for the Magpies, who continue their strong run of form after

losing their opening two games of the season.

Moama is now 5-2 and sit in fifth spot on the ladder, two games clear in the top six.

“It brings a lot of belief in our team knowing that we’re up there amongst the benchmark teams,” Drysdale said. “Everyone was elated after the win, and not to come away with a close win, but to have a very convincing result. It’s a testament to how much we’ve been training and working on our game plan.”

Saturday was a special occasion for Moama’s Sienna Agg, with the youngster coming up from the under-17s to make her A-grade debut.

Drysdale said she was impressed with Agg’s performance in her first A-grade game.

“Sienna did a great job in both goal shooter and goal attack,” she said. “She stood up like she had been a senior player for years, it was great to watch her perform.”

Drysdale said Liv Taverna was another one of the standouts for the Magpies.

“Liv played a very classy game too, she’s a great player,” she said.
